Marcus Thygeson, M.D, MPH

Marcus Thygeson, M.D, MPH is Chief Health Officer at Bind Health, a health plan administrator for self-funded employers in the United States. Marcus has served on both sides of health care--as a physician treating patients and as a health plan executive. Currently, he leads the health team that oversees the redesign of health benefits as “On Demand Health Insurance” mapping value to care by condition.

Marcus has extensive experience leading teams that create and refine health service innovations that lead to improvements in health outcomes. He has served in a variety of health care leadership roles, including President of the Center for Healthcare Innovation at Allina Health and as Chief Health Officer at Blue Shield of California, where he oversaw medical services and innovations, medical management, clinical quality, pharmacy benefits management and medical policies.

Marcus serves on the National Committee for Quality Assurance Committee for Performance Measurement and the Quantum Leap Healthcare Collaborative board of directors. He is a published author of both books and articles on a variety of health service topics, including shared decision making, care management methods, worksite and community wellness, applications of complexity science in health care and comparative configurational methods.

Marcus received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and an M.P.H. from the University of Minnesota.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
