Obesity rates have been increasing over the years. In 2017-2018, the age-adjusted prevalence of obesity in adults was 42.4%. Obesity-related conditions such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some cancer has contributed to the rising cost of obesity. The annual estimated medical cost of obesity in 2008 was $147 billion. With obesity on the rise throughout the world, healthcare organizations have to take the lead in addressing this chronic illness.
