Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccine for Older Adults & ACIP Recommendation
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a cause of severe respiratory illness in older adults. In May 2023, the Food and Drug Administration approved the first vaccines for prevention of RSV-associated lower respiratory tract disease in adults aged ≥60 years. We will discuss the burden of disease for RSV in older adults, review the ACIP June 2023 recommendations and subsequent MMWR publication for RSV vaccination in this population of adults 60 years of age and older, as well as evaluate Pfizer's bivalent RSV Prefusion F Vaccine (RSVpreF), including safety and efficacy in adults 60 years of age and older.
