Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Issue
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects about 1 in 3 men and 1 in 6 women, yet nearly 80% of people with OSA remain undiagnosed. If left untreated, OSA significantly increases the risk of serious health problems like heart rhythm disorders, stroke, and diabetes. Detection and treatment not only improve health outcomes, but can also reduce medical costs by about 20% per patient each month.
Project Objective
Together with a team of national experts, AMGA and 8 healthcare organizations will work to improve screening and diagnosis of OSA in high-risk populations. Patients considered at “high risk” for OSA may include, but are not limited to, patients with obesity, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias.
