Atlanta, GA – Today, the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit recognized AMGA’s Rise to Immunize™ (RIZE) Campaign as the National Winner of their 2023 “Influenza Season” Immunization Champion Award. This prestigious award celebrates innovative activities that improve influenza vaccination rates.

RIZE, a four-year national campaign that aims to mobilize AMGA member organizations to administer 25 million immunizations by 2025, was selected because of the impressive impact campaign participants have made across their communities. In Year 1 alone, medical groups and health systems in the campaign administered and/or documented more than five million vaccinations—including 3,799,935 influenza vaccines (ages 19+)—and provided comprehensive immunization care  to an additional 60,000 adults.

“The successful first year of the Rise to Immunize campaign demonstrates the power of 81 participating medical groups and health systems working together to improve adult immunization rates,” said John Kennedy, MD, AMGA chief medical officer and AMGA Foundation president, who accepted the award at the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit. “This prestigious recognition belongs to each of the participants for their commitment to prioritizing immunization care and helping to protect millions of adults nationwide from vaccine-preventable morbidity and mortality.”

Following the award presentation, Dr. Kennedy participated in a panel discussion with the other National Winners, exploring the activities, challenges, and strategies for success for each program. He outlined key activities of high-performing AMGA members, including standardizing workflows, running gap reports to identify missed opportunities, and utilizing an informed mix of communication channels to conduct outreach to patients. These interventions are aligned with RIZE “campaign planks” (evidence-based care processes) to improve immunization care. Campaign planks span five domains: provider and staff education; clinical support; IT/documentation; patient education; and financial management. Participants also utilize RIZE resources and tools to drive improvement and report data on a quarterly basis to measure progress and benchmark performance against their peers.

RIZE is sponsored by Pfizer (Founding Sponsor), Sanofi and Janssen (Principal Sponsors), Merck (Achieving Sponsor), and GSK (Contributing Sponsor). Campaign partners include AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, Gerontological Society of America, Immunize.org, National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, National Minority Quality Forum, Unity Consortium, and Vaccinate Your Family.
