AMGA Statement on 2021 Advanced Medicare Rate Notice and Proposed Rule

Alexandria, VA – AMGA is closely reviewing the Medicare Advantage Advance Notice and related proposed rule and is pleased that the proposals offer additional flexibilities for plans and providers to work together to best address the needs of their patients, particularly those with chronic diseases. With more than 23 million beneficiaries selecting a Medicare Advantage plan, the program is an increasingly popular option that also enjoys bipartisan support in Congress. AMGA is analyzing the proposals to ensure the program provides appropriate funding to support our members’ care delivery models as well as the flexibility to offer benefits that are not available in fee-for-service Medicare.

“For providers looking for a stable and predictable funding mechanism to support innovative care delivery models, Medicare Advantage is an increasingly attractive option,” said AMGA President and CEO Jerry Penso, M.D., M.B.A. “Patients benefit from an expanded suite of benefits and providers know the program will support their efforts to meet their patients’ needs.”

AMGA is pleased the rules expand the program’s telehealth benefit and continues to implement requirements from the AMGA-endorsed Creating High-Quality Results and Outcomes Necessary to Improve Chronic (CHRONIC) Care Act, which increased the types of supplemental benefits MA plans may offer. AMGA also is closely reviewing the proposal to allow individuals with end stage renal disease (ESRD) to enroll in MA plans. Ensuring appropriate funding for such beneficiaries is crucial for its successful integration into the Medicare Advantage program.
