AMGA Supports Preserving Patient Access to Value-Based Care Act Introduced in Senate

AMGA today endorsed bipartisan legislation that supports Medicare’s continued transition to value-based payment by extending the Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs) program bonus payments.

Alexandria, VA – AMGA today endorsed bipartisan legislation that supports Medicare’s continued transition to value-based payment by extending the Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs) program bonus payments. The Preserving Patient Access to Value-Based Care Act was introduced by Senators John Barrasso (R-WY) and Shelden Whitehouse (D-RI). AMGA recommends the Congress enact this legislation by the end of the year.

The legislation would extend expiring 5% Advanced APM incentive payments for an additional two years. The legislation also maintains the current 50% Advanced APM revenue threshold to incentivize providers to make the move toward value-based care.

“The Advanced APM program is critical in Medicare’s continued transition to value,” said AMGA President and CEO Jerry Penso, M.D., M.B.A. “This bill ensures that Medicare offers the support providers need to start and continue the journey to value. Passage of this bill sends a clear signal that value is here to stay in the Medicare program.”
