AMGA Foundation Announces New Members for Board of Directors

Alexandria, VA – AMGA Foundation today announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors, effective January 1, 2018. Joining the board are Frederick J. Bloom, Jr., M.D., M.M.M., president, Guthrie Medical Group; and Stephanie Copeland, M.D., chief quality officer, USMD Health System.

AMGA Foundation’s Board of Directors guides the organization to enable medical groups and other organized systems of care to consistently improve health and health care. The Board provides strategic direction on the Foundation’s three signature programs: the Acclaim Award, honoring excellence in care delivery; Best Practices Learning Collaboratives, creating communities of knowledge that tackle chronic and preventable diseases; and national campaigns targeting chronic disease, including Together 2 Goal®, mobilizing hundreds of organizations to improve care for millions of people living with diabetes.

 Following are brief biographies of the incoming new members:

 Frederick J. Bloom, Jr., M.D., M.M.M., President, Guthrie Medical Group

Dr. Bloom currently serves as president of Guthrie Medical Group, a role he has held since 2014. As president, he is responsible for all aspects of the medical group of more than 400 providers with over 50 specialty services and primary care in 27 community locations in Pennsylvania and New York. Prior to this position, Dr. Bloom served as chief, care continuum at Geisinger Health System.

Dr. Bloom received his Master’s in Medical Management degree from Tulane University, his Doctor of Medicine degree from Hahnemann Medical School, and a Bachelor of Science degree in health science from Gannon University.

Stephanie Copeland, M.D., FAAP, Chief Quality Officer, USMD Health System

Dr. Copeland currently serves as the Chief Quality Officer for USMD Health System, a role she has held since March 2013. Prior to this position, Dr. Copeland was the chair of pediatrics at Medical Clinic of North Texas for over six years.

Dr. Copeland attended Abilene Christian University and graduated medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She completed her residency at UT Southwestern/Children's Medical Center in Dallas where she also served as chief resident. She has also previously served as a volunteer private practice clinical assistant professor at UT Southwestern Medical School/Children's Medical Center Dallas and currently serves as the Chair of the AMGA Quality Improvement Council.
