AMGA Foundation Announces New Chair and Members of Board of Directors

ALEXANDRIA, VA – AMGA Foundation today announced the appointment of a new Chair and three new members to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. The Foundation’s incoming Chair is Kevin McCune, M.D., chief medical officer at Advocate Medical Group. Joining the board are Deloris Ann Berrien-Jones, M.D., internal medicine and physician champion for diabetes initiatives at Henry Ford Health System; Ghassan Salman, M.D., M.P.H., FACP, chief executive officer at The Austin Diagnostic Clinic Association; and Christina Taylor, M.D., chief quality officer at The Iowa Clinic.

AMGA Foundation’s Board of Directors guides the organization to enable medical groups and other organized systems of care to consistently improve health and health care. The Board provides strategic direction on the Foundation’s three signature programs: the Acclaim Award, honoring excellence in care delivery; Best Practices Learning Collaboratives, creating communities of knowledge that tackle chronic and preventable diseases; and the national campaigns Measure Up/Pressure Down® and Together 2 Goal®, mobilizing hundreds of organizations to improve care for patients with hypertension and diabetes.

Following are brief biographies of the incoming Chair and new members:

Kevin McCune, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Advocate Medical Group
As Chief Medical Officer of Advocate Medical Group, the largest medical group in Illinois, Dr. Kevin McCune is charged with championing excellent clinical outcomes from administration to direct patient care. Prior to this role, Dr. McCune was medical director at Advocate Lutheran General Health Partners and served as a board member to Advocate Medical Group, Advocate Physician Partners, Advocate Hospice, and Advocate Lutheran General Health Plan. Dr. McCune brings more than 20 years of clinical experience to Advocate Medical Group, along with extensive experience in hospice and palliative care. 

Dr. McCune earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago.  During his residency in family medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, he was selected to serve as chief resident and also received the resident teaching award.

Deloris Ann Berrien-Jones, M.D., Internal Medicine, Physician Champion Diabetes Initiative, Henry Ford Medical Group/Henry Ford Health System
Dr. Berrien-Jones has been a member of the Henry Ford Medical Group/Henry Ford Health System (HFMG/HFHS) in Detroit, MI, since September 1987. Along with being a primary care provider practicing in one of the largest satellites in the Henry Ford Health System, Dr. Berrien-Jones has been the physician champion for the diabetes initiatives for the HFMG since January 2007. Dr. Berrien-Jones is also program director of the PROVIDER program, a webinar-based diabetes care learning collaborative for primary care providers.

Dr. Berrien-Jones is a graduate of Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine Medical School, and completed her internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital.

Ghassan Salman, M.D., M.P.H., FACP, Chief Executive Officer, The Austin Diagnostic Clinic Association
As Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Salman is responsible for the overall performance, strategic development, and long-term success of The Austin Diagnostic Clinic (ADC), which has more than 140 providers representing 22 medical specialties at more than 9 locations in Central Texas. Dr. Salman, an internal medicine physician, has received numerous accolades since joining ADC in 2003.

Dr. Salman received his medical education at American University of Beirut in Lebanon and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, in 1997. He completed his fellowship in internal medicine in 1999, master’s in public health at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1999, and completed his master’s in business administration at Isenberg School of Management-Business School at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2015.

Christina Taylor, M.D., Chief Quality Officer, The Iowa Clinic
Dr. Taylor serves as chief quality officer at The Iowa Clinic. In addition to practicing in internal medicine, Dr. Taylor directs the population health efforts at the largest physician-owned multispecialty group in Central Iowa with more than 200 physicians and healthcare providers practicing in 40 specialties. She also serves as the chair of the Department of Medicine for Methodist Hospital of Unity Point in Des Moines. Dr. Taylor is a member of the Quality & Clinical Integration Council (QCIC) and serves as the chair of the QCIC Care Coordination Subcommittee.

She earned her medical degree at the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at Des Moines Hospitals.
