AMGA’s Measure Up/Pressure Down® Campaign Wins Top D.C. Public Relations Awards

ALEXANDRIA, VA – AMGA’s national Measure Up/Pressure Down® high blood pressure campaign, organized by the AMGA Foundation, received prestigious honors at the 49th Annual Thoth Awards Gala for its patient and provider education materials. The competition, hosted annually by the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NCC), recognizes the year’s top public relations programs, products, and campaigns.

AMGA and Measure Up/Pressure Down® won top honors in two categories: Circulation Nation: Your Roadmap to Managing High Blood Pressure won for best brochure, and the It Takes a Team video was recognized as the best external video. Both resources advance the campaign’s aim of improving high blood pressure detection and control across the nation.

During the Awards Gala, PRSA-NCC presented 45 Thoth Awards and Certificates of Excellence (full list available here). An experienced panel of Thoth Awards judges selected the finalists, reviewing numerous entries from a wide range of public relations firms, nonprofit, and corporate organizations located in the Washington, D.C. area.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award for our successful Measure Up/Pressure Down® campaign components,” said Jerry Penso, M.D., M.B.A., president, AMGA Foundation, and chief medical and quality officer, AMGA. “We believe both the video and brochure were instrumental in improving hypertension detection and control for well over half a million patients as part of our campaign. We’re thrilled that their significant impact and quality were recognized.”

AMGA partnered with talented communications companies to produce these resources, including Lot 7 Media for the It Takes a Team video, developed to emphasize the role of all care team members in hypertension management and KLAD Creative and Garfinkel + Associates for the Circulation Nation: Your Roadmap to Managing High Blood Pressure brochure, a patient education booklet with tips for managing high blood pressure.

Launched in 2012, Measure Up/Pressure Down® is a three-year national campaign to improve care and reduce the burden of high blood pressure (also referred to as hypertension). To date, more than half a million patients have improved blood pressure detection or control thanks to campaign efforts. High blood pressure is one of our nation's most significant health issues. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, high blood pressure contributes to nearly 1,000 deaths a day and accounts for an estimated $156 billion in health care services, medications, and lost productivity. An estimated 68 million Americans have the disease, often referred to as the "silent killer." Uncontrolled hypertension can lead to many serious health issues, including heart attacks, chronic heart failure, and stroke.
