AMGA COVID-19 Pulse Survey Results
Survey: Clinical Staffing and Volume
May 22, 2020
Thank you to 83 participants in our fifth COVID-19 pulse survey focused on clinical staffing and related volume changes. As in previous pulse surveys, responses have come from all over the country and are evenly split between independent groups and health systems.
The staffing survey results indicate that groups are projecting a return to in-person visits for much of their volume post-COVID. Primary care looks to retain the largest amount of telehealth visits at 25% of the visits volume, while the number is lower for specialists. Approximately 50% of respondents do not see staffing changes as a result of the shift to telehealth visits. At the same time, 29% anticipate a reduction in front-office staffing, and 37% anticipate a reduction in back-office staffing. In both cases, the median estimate of the staffing change is a 15% reduction.
