Medical Groups and Health Systems Nationwide Document or Administer 18.3 Million Vaccines in Three Years
Alexandria, VA – Today, the AMGA Foundation’s Rise to Immunize® (RIZE) campaign announced that participating medical groups and health systems have administered or documented 18.3 million adult vaccines in the first three years of the national initiative. Since the campaign’s inception, more than 239,000 patients age 66 and older received comprehensive immunization care, meaning these patients are on target for influenza, pneumococcal, Td/Tdap, and zoster vaccines.
The six-year RIZE campaign focuses on seven routine adult vaccinations: influenza, pneumococcal, Td/Tdap, zoster, RSV, COVID-19, and hepatitis B. Since the campaign launched in October of 2021, the average zoster vaccination rate among participating groups has improved the most, increasing 15% from baseline to 36.3%. Equally as impressive is the number of influenza immunizations documented or administered by the participating AMGA members, nearly 13.5 million influenza vaccines across three flu seasons.
“These AMGA member groups are collectively outperforming their peers on immunizations,” said John Kennedy, MD, AMGA chief medical officer and AMGA Foundation president. “More importantly, campaign participants are helping to better protect their patients and communities from vaccine-preventable disease and death.”
Among these participating groups, RIZE selected three AMGA member organizations for the annual “RIZE to the Challenge” Awards, recognizing groups with notable immunization and data achievements. The 2024 award-winners include: Coastal Carolina Health Care, P.A.; Henry Ford Medical Group; and Sutter Health – Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
To date, 85 AMGA member organizations have joined RIZE—representing more than 54,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) physicians and spanning 30 states. To improve adult vaccination rates, participating AMGA members implement evidence-based care processes, or “campaign planks”; report quarterly immunization data; and use best-practice resources and tools identified and provided by the campaign.
RIZE is sponsored by: Pfizer, Inc. (Founding Sponsor), Sanofi and GSK (Executive Sponsors), Merck and Johnson & Johnson (Principal Sponsors), Dynavax (Contributing Sponsor), and CSL Seqirus (Supporting Sponsor). Campaign partners include: AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, Gerontological Society of America, Hepatitis B Foundation, Immunize.org, National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, National Hispanic Medical Association, National Minority Quality Forum, Unity Consortium, and Vaccinate Your Family.
