John Cuddeback, M.D., Ph.D.
As Chief Medical Informatics Officer, Dr. Cuddeback leads AMGA Analytics, bringing together AMGA member organizations to improve population health through comparative clinical analytics. AMGA’s advocacy has long focused on moving health care from volume to value. Our collaboratives enable members to learn from each other about the practical realities of transforming their delivery systems.
Dr. Cuddeback previously served as CMIO at MedStar Health, the largest health care provider in the Baltimore−DC region, and prior to that as CIO and then VP for Health Policy at Shands HealthCare at the University of Florida. He has led the implementation of many point-of-care clinical systems, including advanced CPOE and clinical documentation for high-risk areas such as obstetrics and oncology, as well as an ambulatory EHR. He also led MedStar’s HIPAA initiative. Dr. Cuddeback has worked with front-line care teams on clinical process redesign and has developed meaningful board-level quality oversight mechanisms. He led a community health care needs assessment and has led IT strategic planning for academic medical centers and integrated delivery systems. At Shands, he created one of the earliest integrated clinical−financial data warehouses, along with true cost accounting and a clinically driven budgeting process. He also led a statewide effort to develop the risk adjustment model for Florida’s first “hospital report cards.”
Dr. Cuddeback holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Case Western Reserve University, a Doctorate Physicology and Statistics from Indiana University, Bloomington and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University, Indianapolis.
