Best Practices in Managing Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Collaborative

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease that has high morbidity, mortality, and costs and affects 1% of the adult population. It is estimated that both the direct and indirect costs associated with RA are $40 billion and could reach as high as $54 billion by 2030. The economic impact of RA is similar to, if not greater than, costs associate d with other, more prevalent, chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Case Studies

AMGA partnered with AbbVie to develop Best Practices in Managing Patients with Managing Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Compendium. The Compendium includes case studies from medical groups, independent practice associations, academic practices, and integrated delivery systems that have led to improvement in patients with RA.

Learning Collaborative

The Best Practices Learning Collaborative is designed for organizations that are striving to improve the care of patients with RA.  Working together, the participating groups facilitate discovery, adoption and spread of care processes that will improve the way in which patients with rheumatoid arthritis experience the health care system. Participating project teams regularly network with peers, participate in monthly webinars on relevant project topics, attend two in-person meetings, and have timely access to industry experts. Through a yearlong series of activities, participating organizations had the opportunity to test approaches and design care processes that are relevant to their clinical and operational models.

Sixteen organizations were awarded $10,000 grants to support their initiatives. An additional two organizations received travel stipends to attend the collaborative meetings without additional educational support. The learning collaborative commenced in August 2014 and concluded in August 2015.
