Donor Spotlight

Our donor spotlight highlights an AMGA Foundation donor who has made significant contributions to support the Foundation's work.

Ronald H. Kirkland, M.D., M.B.A.

Ronald H. Kirkland, M.D., M.B.A., is retired from The Jackson Clinic, a multispecialty group practice in western Tennessee, where he practiced Otolaryngology and served as Chairman of the Board for five years.

He previously served as the AMGA Board Chair and also AMGA Foundation Chair. In that role, he amplified the Foundation’s reach by overseeing an expansion of Best Practices Learning Collaboratives, implementing Measure Up/Pressure Down®, and launching the Chronic Care Roundtable. This work laid the foundation for Together 2 Goal®, our second national campaign focused on diabetes. In November 2016, we honored Dr. Kirkland with a Legacy Award at the 50th Anniversary Gala in commemoration of his generosity and commitment to the Foundation.

Why did you initially get involved with AMGA and AMGA Foundation?

The programming of AMGA meetings 15 or more years ago seemed to provide answers to the questions we were asking on the board of directors of The Jackson Clinic, so we began to attend as a group. Attending the meetings was well worth the cost. Much later, I was asked to join the AMGA Foundation board at an exciting time when the Foundation was beginning to spread its wings under the leadership of Carl Rider and Bill Conway and under the day-to-day management of Julie Sanderson-Austin.

What program have you enjoyed working on the most with the Foundation?

The Chronic Care Challenges (Measure Up/Pressure Down® and Together 2 Goal®) were and are such vital efforts to improve our national healthcare delivery system, and it is very satisfying to see how well these programs have met and exceeded their goals.

How do you see AMGA and the Foundation shaping the future of health care?

No other healthcare organization can do what the Foundation is doing on the national stage. The large-scale Chronic Care Challenges have and will improve health care for millions of Americans.

What is important for our members to know about the Foundation?

Individual and group support of the AMGA Foundation is essential for the continued remarkable success of Foundation efforts. Please do your part!
