Strategies to Tackle Cost Reduction Issues
Thought Leaders: Ed Marx, Director of Strategic and Operations Analytics, Vanderbilt University Hospital and Clinics
Narayana Murali, MD, FACP, President and Executive Director, Marshfield Clinic
If your organization is among the AMGA groups that are forecasting revenue shortfalls, reducing costs related to declining reimbursement and fewer patient visits, or facing uncertainty around health care reform, this discussion is for you.  Join your colleagues for an intimate conversation on strategic cost management, led by two organizations who have already tackled this tough issue. This will not be a lecture.  As a participant you will have the opportunity to have an open dialogue with your fellow AMGA colleagues on critical issues such as whether or not to engage a consultant, explore labor and non-labor approaches, and learn how to cut costs without damaging quality.

What You Need to Know about Medicare Advantage
Thought Leaders: William L. Jonakin, MD, Medical Director, Population Health, St. Luke’s Clinic
Ken Cohen MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer, New West Physicians
Increasingly, Medicare Advantage (MA) is the coverage of choice for Medicare beneficiaries.  Approximately a third of all beneficiaries are covered by an MA plan.  However, medical groups and health systems are often unprepared for the change in approach that MA plans require vs. usual fee-for-service Medicare.  In this discussion, led by two healthcare organizations-one new to MA, and one a longstanding MA participant, you will have the opportunity to informally measure yourself on a MA readiness scale, and discuss the strategies and results of your MA plans with fellow AMGA colleagues.

As the integration trend continues, there are inevitable and natural tensions in the evolving dynamic of a medical group inside a health system. Turning Spare Change into Great Experience: How to Use Change Management Concepts to Improve the Patient Experience
James Park, MD, MHA, Chief Medical Officer, Valley Medical Center
Shannon Markegard, DO, Associate Medical Director of Patient Services, Valley Medical Center Clinic Network
Improving Patient Experience scores is one of the most difficult challenges facing medical leaders today and much of the problem lies with lack of physician engagement. At best, physicians are skeptical of data, don’t think they need to change, or think there is nothing they can do to improve. At worst, they are openly derisive of any effort in this arena. In this environment, improving patient experience scores is simply impossible. Clearly, the first step is to change the culture. In this highly interactive session, attendees will learn how Valley Medical Center employed specific change models to create an engaged strategy and the tactics for improving Patient Experience, leading to sustained improvement. They will also be challenged to create strategies for their own organizations.
