How It Works
Getting involved in AMGA’s Employee Satisfaction and Engagement
Survey is straightforward.

Step 1: Contact AMGA to receive start-up materials
- Choose the survey cycle that
is best for your organization.
- Print out and complete a copy of AMGA's Survey Registration
Form. Click here for a copy.
- Contact Mark Babey at (703)
838-0033 (ext. 337) to receive information on submitting your "employee
profiles", as well as a template for completing them.
Step 2: Submit survey registration form and employee profiles to AMGA
The employee profile template is an Excel file containing three
spreadsheets. One spreadsheet is used to list the employees who will be
participating in the survey, another to list your medical group’s
“sites”, or locations, and the third is for listing each individual with
supervisory/management responsibilities.
Each listed employee must also have an ID number assigned by your
medical group. The ID number will be used to enhance the security of the
survey website, while also making it easier for employees to gain access
to the survey. The ID number could be one already in use in your
organization, but if you do not use such a number then you can simply
assign one to each employee that will only be used for this survey. You
also have the option of providing email addresses for each employee. If
you provide such email addresses, AMGA will then be able to handle most
of the survey-related communications with the employees via email. If
you do not provide email addresses, your organization will need to
handle all of the communications.
With the lists of supervisors and sites, AMGA will then be able to
set up the survey website so that employees can use pull-down menus to
identify their own supervisor and work location.
Step 3: Optionally, submit up to five extra
questions of your own creation (in Likert-scale format) for an added fee
Step 4: Survey your employees
AMGA uses a rigorous, extensively tested survey methodology designed
to maximize your response rate. This methodology involves:
- Use of a secure, easy to use,
web-based survey. This technology assures employees of being able to
provide confidential ratings of their job attitudes, and thereby being
able to be completely honest in their statements. Employees will find
that they will be able to complete the survey quickly. Moreover, the web
technology assures participating medical groups of receiving the
strongest, most accurate information possible.
- Sending each employee a
‘Pre-notification Letter’ a week before the survey begins, so that
everyone knows that your group is participating in the survey, that the
survey invitation will be coming within a week, and why their
participation is so crucial.
- On the day the survey opens,
either AMGA or your medical group (depending on whether you provided
email addresses as part of the employee profiles) will send each
employee a memo that reiterates the importance of both the survey and
the individual’s participation. Included in this cover memo will be
either a person-specific link to the survey or the URL for the survey’s
website.
- Two reminder notices will be
sent at specific intervals during the two week survey period, urging
each employee to participate in the survey. A link to the survey or the
survey website’s URL will again be included in the reminders.
Step 5: Receive your comprehensive report
- The final report contains
your complete results, including results for your group as a whole; by
site, job category, and manager/supervisor; results for each survey item
and dimension; national and job category-specific norms and best
practice benchmarks; and breakdowns by major demographic categories.
- Individual employee results
remain confidential. Only sites, supervisors, and job categories with
three or more employee surveys receive reports to help preserve employee
anonymity.
- The report is received within
three to four weeks after the survey ends (or less than three months
after submitting your list of employees to AMGA).
