Nicholas Wolter, M.D.

Billings Clinic
As CEO of Billings Clinic, based in
Billings, Montana, Dr. Wolter heads the largest fully integrated
health system in the north central Rocky Mountain states. DBC is a
charitable, tax-exempt medical foundation, employing approximately
2,800 people to operate a 272 bed hospital, a 200 physician group
practice, a 90 bed nursing home, and a research division. DBC is also
one of four equity members of a state-wide HMO, New West Health Plan,
which was formed as a charitable corporation under Montana law and
began operation in 1998.
Dr. Wolter received his B.A. in English at Carleton
College, his M.A. in American Culture at the University of Michigan,
and his M.D. at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He
completed his internship and residency at the Mary Imogene Bassett
Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, and returned to the University of
Michigan for a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He
is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine. He is
a member of the American College of Physician Executives.
Active in many regional and national organizations,
Dr. Wolter has served as Chairman of the Board of VHA Mountain States
and as Chairman of the Board of MHA¼an Association of Montana Health
Care Providers. He serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of
VHA Health Foundation and of LifeCenter Northwest, and is a
Commissioner on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC).
