Public Policy & Political Affairs

The AMGA Public Policy & Political Affairs Department provides aggressive national advocacy on behalf of AMGA membership. With member input, AMGA Government Affairs staff improve the political, business, and professional climates for multispecialty medical group practices. The department also advises and informs AMGA members regarding federal laws, legislation, and regulations affecting the medical group community, as well as other relevant developments.

Advocacy: The department advocates for priority issues affecting medical groups; promotes policymakers’ and lawmakers’ awareness of the advantages of the group model environment; represents membership’s interests among related associations and coalitions; and advises members regarding implementation of, and compliance with, enacted and proposed legislation and regulations. AMGA grassroots activity, fostered by the department, is another avenue for members’ impact on national events.

Meetings: In addition to an annual Capitol Hill Conference, the department sponsors meetings throughout the year and in concert with AMGA’s Education Department.

Publications and Updates: In addition to AMGA’s Advocacy Enews, AMGA's weekly electronic newsletter, the department keeps members informed on the latest development through e-mailed Legislative Alerts and Breaking News bulletins, legislative analyses, and a monthly column in Group Practice Journal.
