Position: Regional Vice President for Medical Affairs

The Hospital Division of Kindred Healthcare has retained Cejka Executive Search to assist in the recruitment of the Regional Vice President for Medical Affairs for the West Region. The regional headquarters office is in Southern California.

Ranked as one of Fortune magazine's Most Admired Healthcare Companies in 2009 and 2010, Kindred Healthcare is a leading healthcare service provider operating 83 long-term acute care ("LTAC") hospitals in 24 states, 222 nursing and rehabilitation centers in 27 states and providing additional contract rehabilitation services in long-term care settings.

The Regional Vice President for Medical Affairs will promote the mission and value proposition to current and prospective customers and stakeholders including healthcare systems, hospitals, group practices and health plans. The primary focus of this physician executive role will be to strengthen Kindred Healthcare Hospital Division’s market share in primary and secondary markets in Southern California, Arizona, Colorado, Washington and New Mexico. There are 20 LTAC hospitals in the West Region. The Regional VPMA is a provider/client-facing role with involvement in strategic activities that include the managed care, business development, financial, clinical and service performances of the Region’s hospitals. The Regional VPMA will be traveling to states within the Region with occasional trips to the corporate headquarters in Louisville, KY. S/he will report to the Division CMO, Sean Muldoon, MD, with a dotted line reporting relationship to Traci Shelton, West Region Senior Vice President.

As a member of the leadership team for the West Region, the ideal candidate is a seasoned medical executive with a minimum of five years of experience and progressive leadership in healthcare enterprises, with demonstrated success in business development. Experience and knowledge of Medicare payment policy for hospitals and physicians, with a working knowledge of inpatient insurance benefits, coverage and appeal policy is a must. A medical degree from an accredited medical school, a current and unrestricted medical license and board certification is required. A post-graduate business degree (MBA/MMM) is desired but not required.
