Position: Chief Operating Officer

Sutter Health is one of the nation's leading not-for-profit networks of community based health care providers, delivering high quality care in more than 100 Northern California communities. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Mills-Peninsula Health Services together form the Peninsula Coastal Region of Sutter Health, one of the nation's leading not-for-profit networks of community-based health care providers.

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) for Health Care, Research and Education is a not-for-profit, community-based multispecialty group practice of medicine. PAMF patients are cared for by more than 850 physicians from the three historic medical groups affiliated with PAMF: Camino Medical Group (CMG), Palo Alto Medical Clinic (PAMC) and Santa Cruz Medical Clinic (SCMC). PAMF provides care to patients at its clinics and medical centers throughout Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.

The primary function of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is to plan, direct, monitor, coordinate, control and evaluate the operation and activities of Palo Alto Medical Foundation Santa Cruz (PAMFSC). This is to include specified clinical and ancillary operations and functions in the Santa Cruz Area. This position functions as a member of the PAMFSC administrative team and must work collaboratively with other Sutter Health vice presidents in setting overall administrative direction and ensuring positive medical group relations.

The COO reports directly to the President of Palo Alto Medical Foundation Santa Cruz. Reporting to this position are the Directors of Clinical Services, Directors of Laboratory, Imaging, Physical Medicine, and Manager of Optical Services.

Knowledge:
In depth knowledge of clinic operations, ability to communicate clearly to all levels in the organization, and the ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports.

Skills and Abilities:
Strong organizational skills. Skills in exercising initiative judgment, problem solving, decision-making and follow-through. The ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff and physicians. Organizing work to achieve goals and objectives. Analytical ability required. Flexibility in prioritizing responses based on changing needs.

Ability to work as a team member and promote the full array of Sutter Health services in the Santa Cruz Area.

60% sitting in enclosed office, using phone and computer. Extensive night meetings. Car travel to all Palo Alto Medical Foundation Santa Cruz entities required.

Career Ladder:
After demonstrated performance in this position and acquisition of any required education, experience, knowledge and/or skills, the incumbent may be promoted to a Sutter Health Operating position or entity CEO.
