Getting There from Here: A Physician’s Thoughts on Healthcare Reform
In the debate over American healthcare system reform, medical groups
are often provided as examples of systems that can deliver on President
Obama’s promise of safe, high-quality, accountable, and affordable
health care. In this presentation, Dr. Gawande will discuss why the
American healthcare system does not need to be completely redesigned and
rebuilt from the ground up to deliver on this promise. He will
demonstrate how medical groups can continue to lead the way in reforming
health care in America by focusing on accountability and building on
systems already in place within the medical group community. He also
will provide lessons learned from other industrialized nations that have
reformed their systems in times of crisis. |
